Love on a Leash®

The Blue Water Chapter of Love on a Leash was founded in April of 2022. The chapter meets once a month to coordinate group visits, answer questions, socialize, and host guest speakers; the public is welcome as are certified therapy pets. We coordinate group visits at nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, schools, universities, funeral homes, veterans’ homes, and special events. We also visit various nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and participate in parades and community events to promote pet therapy. When needed, we are called in to comfort first responders, staff, students, and victims in the event of a tragedy. We visit in St.Clair, Macomb, and Sanilac counties. Some members visit independently as well.

Meet Our Leaders

Sue Kinyon lives in Port Huron with her husband Mike and a houseful of adopted Doodles. Sue became a certified therapy dog handler in 2001 through another organization; she became a Love on a Leash member in 2018 and chapter co-leader in 2022. She currently has 3 therapy dogs, Dozer and Tonka are Newfypoos and Maya is a Goldendoodle. Sue enjoys visiting with her husband, who is also a Love on a Leash volunteer, and other awesome therapy dog teams in the Blue Water area. Sue works out of her home as an accounting software consultant, but therapy dog volunteering is Sue’s passion and calling. Her favorite part about volunteering with Love on a Leash is comforting people of all ages, making them feel special, and spending quality one-on-one time with her dogs.

Carolyn Crowe became a certified therapy dog handler in 2008 through another organization; she became a Love on a Leash member in 2018 and chapter co-leader in 2022. Carolyn founded our local therapy dog club in 2014 and is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator who teaches puppy kindergarten, basic, and intermediate dog obedience classes. Carolyn is the Leader Dogs for the Blind puppy counselor in the Blue Water Area and has raised over 30 of their puppies. She currently has three certified Love on a Leash dogs. Her favorite part of volunteering is seeing the joy they bring to people of all ages.
