North San Diego County

Love on a Leash®

The North San Diego County chapter was one of the first chapters of Love on a Leash; established in 2001, it is currently our largest chapter. The chapter coordinates multiple group visits each month at senior living facilities, hospitals, schools and libraries in North San Diego County; many members visit additional sites independently. We also participate in community events and have a special connection with Wounded Warriors at Camp Pendleton.

Meet Our Co-Leaders

Beth Hulsart lives in Carlsbad and is certified with Emily, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Beth is a retired educator and avid volunteer. In addition to working with Love on a Leash, Beth also volunteers with the Friends of the Carlsbad Library and particularly enjoys their Paws to Read program where the youngsters read to the pups. Beth loves the comfort and joy we bring to those folks with whom we share our beloved companions.

Wendy Deaver is a San Diego State alumni and 5th-grade teacher; she has been certified with Love on a Leash since 2015 and is currently the human half of team Murphy, who is an especially fluffy 9-year-old golden retriever rescue from South Korea. Besides her three adult daughters, her greatest joy in life is providing “golden” retirement years to senior golden retrievers whose days are resplendent with fluffy pink dog beds, whipped-cream pup cups from Starbucks, and frequent trips to the neighborhood dog park. Murphy loves to go on Love on a Leash outings and offer his generous heart to anyone who would like an altruistic hello.
