Love on a Leash®

Established in 2001, the North San Diego County chapter of Love on a Leash is our largest active chapter. The chapter coordinates multiple group visits each month at senior living facilities, hospitals, schools and libraries in North San Diego County; many members visit additional sites independently. We also participate in community events and have a special connection with Wounded Warriors at Camp Pendleton.

Meet Our Co-Leaders

Susie Blake has been an active volunteer with Love on a Leash® since 2005, beginning with her black Labrador Retriever, Joey, who passed away in 2016; she continued visits with her Long-Haired Dachshund, Lily, and her Golden Retriever, Duke. Today, she honors their legacies through visits with her MaltiPoo, Launi. Susie serves on the national board of directors as Membership Chair and is passionate about Love on a Leash.

Beth Hulsart lives in Carlsbad; she first certified with Emily, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, in 2018. Sadly, Emily crossed the rainbow bridge in May 2024, but Beth is planning to certify with another King Charles soon. Beth is a retired educator and avid volunteer. In addition to serving on the Love on a Leash national board of directors, Beth also volunteers with the Friends of the Carlsbad Library and particularly enjoys their Paws to Read program where the youngsters read to the pups.
