Love on a Leash®

The Northeast Ohio chapter of Love on a Leash® was founded in 2024 by Donna Stottlemyer. With a passion for pet therapy and community outreach, Donna helped bring together a dedicated group of volunteers who share the joy of visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and other local facilities. Though the chapter is still growing, its impact has already been felt throughout the region as more teams join the mission to provide comfort, connection, and smiles through the power of pet therapy.

Meet Our Leader

I have been looking forward to starting a Love on a Leash Chapter in Ohio since I moved from Texas in June 2021. I was the Rockwall/Royse City Chapter Leader until just before I moved and was disappointed there was not a local chapter near my new location. I joined the Rockwall/Royse City (TX) Chapter in 2013 with my first Irish Wolfhound, BreeAnna and then certified my Irish Wolfhound, Odin in 2017. I am happy to have my third certified Irish Wolfhound, Albus to start the Northeast Ohio Chapter. We are covering an extended area with Cleveland and Akron being the two largest cities and a lot of smaller cities and towns that we can provide pet therapy visits. We started with the required five certified teams- Janet Grasso & Herbie was the first certified team that I was in contact with when we had a new team, Sandy Denman & Sweetie (feline) that needed Supervised Visits and was certified in 2023. I was introduced to Jerry Seiter & Teddy, and Linda Carr & Hudson that were willing to be a part of the Chapter to meet the requirements. Then Abby Brenner & Joe agreed to join us. Since then, we have had Sandy Williams & Sir Murphy become certified. Jenny Smith & Guster will be finishing their Supervised Visits in April 2025 and plan to join the chapter. The first week our new chapter was added to the Love on a Leash website, I had a call from a lady interested in getting her dog certified as she would like to participate in USO events for the military. So, we are already growing! Our teams visit nursing homes, hospitals, and one has children at a library reading aloud to him. I look forward to growing our chapter and finding new locations that welcome therapy visits to bring joy and smiles to everyone!
