Love on a Leash®

The Heartland Chapter of Love on a Leash was officially founded in 2014, although early members had been visiting at nursing homes, VA facilities and hospitals since 2006. Our teams continue to bring joy to these places and have added several court activities, reading with children at three local libraries, college stress relief breaks and hospice visits. In addition, many members have favorite places they enjoy visiting independently.

Meet Our Leader

Carol Mitchel became a certified Love on a Leash therapy team with her Cairn/Welsh Terrier Mix Jack in 2012 and co-founded the chapter two years later. She added Taffy, an all-American terrier, to the LOAL family in 2019. Both are rescue dogs; Jack is reluctantly semi-retired at 12 1/2 years old, while Taffy enthusiastically brings smiles to everyone she meets.
